During my undergraduate time, I also did research on sound simulation with another undergraduate Lang Qinglin and a Ph.D. student Jin Xutong. Unfortunately, our submitted papers were rejected and thus not published. However, it's still a valuable experience and I'd like to share them here.
We submitted a paper, namely PPPM-TDBEM at that time, to accelerate sound simulation by combining finite difference time domain method (FDTD) and boundary element method (BEM) in SIGGRAPH 2023. It got an average score of -0.6; but we suddenly realized that there existed a crucial problem in our method and thus we didn't submit a rebuttal.
We developed a VR system with sound simulation and submitted a paper called XXXXXX in IEEE VR 2023. Personally, I thought our work didn't have enough contributions as an academic paper and it was indeed rejected. It seems that my advisor is still improving and submitting the paper, so I redact its name for anonymity.
